Does My Child Need a Tutor?
By Colleen Palat
I’m sure quite a few of us parents have asked ourselves this question at some point during our child’s education. How do we know if our child needs some extra help? Does our child need a tutor, or are they simply not applying themselves?
Below are some signs that your child may need a tutor. Read through the list below and see if any apply to your child.
* Your child tells you he/she is struggling in school. Not a better sign!
* Your child’s grades and test scores are low despite frequent studying.
* He/she puts themselves down by saying they’re “stupidâ€, or other negative remarks regarding their capability.
* He/she avoids the topic of school or school related activities.
* Your child acts up in class and is a disruption.
* Your child frequently asks to stay home from school, or finds creative excuses for why they can’t go.
* Your child’s teacher recommends that your child may need some extra support for the material presented.
* Your child doesn’t feel like they’re getting the attention they need in the classroom and requires some extra support.
* Your child doesn’t feel academically challenged and desires more in depth study.
If your child experiences any these signs, it may be worth your time to look and see if your child needs some extra help. Get in touch with their teacher and have a heart-to-heart with your child. Getting their input will help to narrow down the problem and allow you to take appropriate action to improve your child’s education and their capacity to learn.
