Facebook and Your Child’s Education
By Meaghan Montrose
I found two posts recently that connect the use of Facebook to education. This may sound a little strange since we usually think of Facebook as a social site that our child is obsessed with rather than something that could further their education. With new advances in technology each day, however, using and understanding tools such as Facebook has become a form of education itself.
The GoCollege.com Blog has reported that there are new Facebook Applications for Current and Prospective College Students. Facebook has become more than a simple social network. Its uses are advancing with new technologies and ideas. Facebook can allow students to search many colleges and even submit applications to certain colleges.
In addition to researching colleges, Facebook can also be the topic of a college course. One college is offering a program in social media which would include, but is not limited to, studying social networking options such as Facebook, MySpace, and Twitter. This course is a sign of the times we now live in. Does anyone remember life before the internet? Find out more about the course at the GoCollege.com post: A Graduate Degree in Facebook, MySpace, and Twitter?.

This is amazing to me. I don’t want to date myself, but I barely knew what the internet was when I went to college!
