Networking Helps Tutors Succeed

By Scott Palat

Many tutors who run their own businesses often times feel alone and on their own. I found a great post on support networks. If you click here, you can read about Daniel’s experience as he finds tutor and mentor programs in and around Chicago.

It’s easier than ever to find people who share that same tutoring passion and currently, I even run a free forum on the ning network. If you go to onlinetutoringforum.com you can see how it works. I also have a private network for my TutorFi.com clients and I now find myself recommending these types of private or public networks to other businesses and people who enjoy communicating with other people who share their passion.

I think that ning.com has a lot of good features, which is why I created a http://tutormentorconnection.ning.com page a few months ago.

I’m also on Facebook, MySpace and a few other places where people gather. In each of these I point back to the Tutor/Mentor Blog, and the http://www.tutormentorconnection.org site where we also have networking forums.

The challenge we each face is building traffic and competing with millions of other web sites and interests for face time. Since most of us do not have advertising dollars, we need to find ways to build traffic by creating a network of links, so that when anyone gets a visitor, we provide a path through the network to give the visitor the most satisfying experience possible. That way they will return, and hopefully, bring their friends.
