Online Tutoring Overseas; the Good and the Bad
By Scott Palat
I found an interesting post about using online tutors from India. Click here to read the original blog post. I feel the need to give people more information about this. Yes, it’s true that online tutors from India are smart and they work for less money than a tutor from the U.S.
I know that most of these online tutoring companies do help students learn, but to what degree? Most students don’t get to work with the same tutor and phone consultations for the parent don’t happen. After running different online tutoring companies over the past 4 years, I can say that parents and students appreciate a tutor who takes the time to care.
This post is not an attempt to bash other Indian online tutoring companies. I have nothing but respect for the tutors and the companies.
The reality is that US online tutoring can be far more beneficial for the student and parent. It’s very important that each student works with the same tutor and what’s more important is the communication between the tutor and the student. Tutors from India are often times hard to understand. This can make tutoring sessions inefficient.
U.S. online tutors (if instructed correctly) can pick up the phone and consult with the parent. These consultations are very important, because it helps the tutor to understand the students learning needs, obstacles and more. It also helps the parent to feel confident about their decision to pay for online tutoring services.
By taking the time to care, online tutors in the U.S. can easily compete with Indian tutors and you can confidently charge more for your online tutoring service.
