Parental Involvement Affects the Academic Success of Children

By Meaghan Montrose

Although a child’s success in school depends a great deal on their own efforts, you as a parent can make an impact. Parents act as role models, guides, cheerleaders, police officers, and much more. Each of these roles that you take on as a parent are important to your child’s successful navigation of school and life in general.

The Learning Guardian blog has a recent post on the subject of parent involvement. The post includes a list of 7 Reasons Why You Should Be Involved in Your Child’s Education. Each of the reasons provided is based on findings from research experiments.

One of the reasons in the post states that “the family makes critical contributions to student achievement from preschool through high school. A home environment that encourages learning is more important to student achievement than income, education level or cultural background”.

Clearly, just showing an interest in you child’s education can make a huge difference. Follow the link to the Learning Guardian post to read all of the reasons and a few examples of how you can get involved in you child’s schooling.
